The Ark has a large number of special adoption cats that are available to a home where they will be cherished for their uniqueness. If you are interested in one of the Ark’s special adoptions, please contact us at info@thearkcatsanctuary.org.

Feline Leukemia

Feline leukemia (FeLV) is not a death sentence! This virus is spread through close contact from an infected cat to a non-infected cat; grooming, for example or shared food bowl. For this reason, it is best if an FeLV cat is either an only cat or is in a home with another cat that carries the virus. Read here for information provided by Best Friends Animal Society on feline leukemia and how you can make a difference in the lives of these loving and lovable cats. These are only three of our wonderful FeLV cats; email us for more information.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is also not a death sentence. This virus can cause a weakening of a cat’s immune system. It is feline-specific; dogs and people cannot contract this virus. Transmission from one cat to another is nearly always caused by a deep bite wound from an infected to a non-infected cat. It is extremely rare for FIV to be passed on through casual contact, sharing of bowls or carried by a human’s touch. FIV positive and negative cats can live together in the same home with no issues as long as there is no fighting. Read here for more information on FIV from the Best Friends Animal Society. These three guys are only a few of the adoptable FIV cats at the Ark. Email us if you’d like to know more or to set up a time to visit.

More Special Cats

The Ark also hosts many cats who are adoptable but, for one reason or another, are not suitable candidates to go to our off-site partner, PetSmart. Some of these cats simply do not do well in close confinement, and others have certain disabilities which disqualify them for adoptions through PetSmart. They are fantastic companion animals and need a loving home as much as the others. Snowy, Pinkerton, Stirling and Lucy are only a few. Send us an email if you’d like more information.
